Energy Occurs in Many Forms TEKS 5.6A

TEKS 5.6A The student knows that energy occurs in many forms and can be observed in cycles, patterns, and systems. The student is expected to: A. Explore the uses of energy, including mechanical, light, thermal, electrical, and sound energy

Energy Energy is what makes things happen. It is the ability to move or change matter..

Energy Energy comes in many forms such as heat, electricity and light and can be transformed from one kind to another.

Source of Energy The sun is the source of almost all of our energy on Earth. This energy is called solar energy.

Forms of Energy Form Explanation Heat Energy Energy measured by temperature Light Energy that travels in waves that you see Sound Energy that travels in waves that you hear Electrical Energy caused by the flow of electric charges through a conductor

Energy Transformation Plants use light energy from the sun to make food. The light energy has been transformed and stored in the plant matter.

Energy Transformation The plants are buried and after millions of years turn into fossil fuels. Photo is copyright free for non-commercial educational uses.  Just credit photo to R.Weller/Cochise College.

Energy Transformation The fossil fuels are burned releasing stored energy in the form of heat.

Energy Transformation The power plant transforms the heat energy into electrical energy.

Energy Transformation The electrical energy is moved from the power plant to a home. When a lamp is turned on, the electrical energy is changed to light and heat energy.

Question Which of these pictures shows electrical energy being changed to light and sound energy? B. C. D.

Incorrect Answer A. The fire is transforming energy stored in the wood into heat and light energy.

Correct Answer B. The television is transforming electrical energy into light and sound.

Incorrect Answer C. The toaster is transforming electrical energy to heat energy.

Incorrect Answer D. The windmills are transforming wind energy into electrical energy.
