 Colonial-Cambridge All Rights Reserved Decision Making Total-gain agreement 100% of participants are satisfied that the decision reached represents a benefit or advantage to them that they could not have achieved without the involvement of the group. Everyone experiences‘gain’ that would have been impossible without the dynamics and contributions of the group. 3 kinds of decision making: Democratic (voting) – someone wins and someone loses Consultative – someone gathers feedback from people and then decides Participative – through discussion we make a decision; looking for compromise but not concessions The focus here is to state that we are not voting! We will only accept & go forward with decisions that are what we ALL want (or what we can ALL live with.) Circle any key words in this tactic Write down the key words Come to agreement on definitions List the key words people have designated. Discuss each word and come to an operational definition of each one. Come to agreement on the definitions! Be sure the minute keeper gets record of the key words & definitions (example below) Example of Question #4 (if needed to explain the point of the question) The district’s strategy 4 states: We will design & implement a system that creates challenging personal educational plans at each appropriate level in collaboration with students, families, and staff.  Colonial-Cambridge All Rights Reserved Tactic Analysis Review thoughts around the 4 questions Compile one T-chart What the tactic IS about What the tactic IS NOT about Give individual think time (to review their hmk or get thoughts down if they didn’t) Small group – talk in groups of 3-4 to share ideas Large group (public record) – use either a T-chart or 2 pieces of chart paper to collect ideas. If an idea gets put on both lists (is & is not), explore that idea. Help the group come to agreement on their understanding of the tactic. (If you have questions about the tactic, talk to members of the planning team to help clarify their intent) Have the minute keeper type it up…might be easiest to project the T-chart & type right onto the form Be sure to discuss and add comments from the Planning Team’s notes.  Colonial-Cambridge All Rights Reserved

Chart of Hopes and Dreams What do we want to see going on at this site in 3-4 years as a result of this tactic? At this point we are not narrowing down ideas or considering a budget. In an ideal world, what does this tactic look like? Individual brainstorming time (3 min) Small group – discuss lists in small groups and write each (unduplicated) idea on flip chart Share out ideas to group Make one poster or document that states your hopes and dreams of this tactic. *Email this list to them the next day so they can do the homework Communication Option: In addition to emailing out to the Action Team members, it is strongly recommended that you put your poster (& tactic) on campus somewhere that everyone can see it. Place post-its near the poster & encourage people to add ideas. The more information you have, the bigger picture you’ll have of your tactic.  Colonial-Cambridge All Rights Reserved Homework Draft 3 – 5 activities or topics that must happen to reach the vision you have for this tactic. Consider our “Hopes & Dreams” & Tactic Analysis as you develop activities/topics. This is meant to be an individual thinking process that will be sorted into similar thinking at the next meeting. If time, complete at this meeting…then sort them into related categories (more info on the meeting #3 ppt) Individually write 3-5 activities/topics on post-its that must occur to fulfill this tactic A couple members at a time, put your post-its on the wall. As you are posting, read the others. Start sorting the post-its into “rough” categories As a whole group, agree to the “rough” groups “This group of post-its is about ________” This will help to formulate your result statements at the next meeting.
