Presentation transcript:

MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM Consists of: The two testes. A system of genital ducts. The accessory glands. Penis. The main function of the system is the formation of spermatozoa, the elaboration of male sex hormones, and delivery of male gametes into the female reproductive tract. I.TESTES: Histologically consist of: A. capsule: fibro muscular connective tissue known as tunica albuginea, whose inner vascular layer is the tunica vasculosa, the capsule is thickened at the mediastinum testis from which septa emanate, subdividing the testis into incomplete testicular lobules , with each containing one –four seminiferous tubule embedded in a connective tissue stroma. B. Seminiferous tubules Dr.dhyaa

primary and secondary spermatocytes, spermatids Spermatozoa. B. Seminiferous tubules: is composed of a fibro muscular tunica properia and somniferous epithelium both structure separated from the by basement membrane. 1. Seminiferous epithelium: composed of sustentacular (Sertoli) cells and stratified layers of developing male gametes, the gametes cells composed of: Spermatogonia A and B. primary and secondary spermatocytes, spermatids Spermatozoa. 2. Tunica properia: consist of collagenous connective tissue, fibroblastic and myoid cells. Dr.dhyaa

II.GENITAL DUCTS A.tubulii recti: short straight tubes lined by Sertoli-like cells initially and simple cuboidal epithelium later connects the somniferous tubules to the reti testis. B. Rete Testis: is composed of cuboidal cell-lined labyrinthine spaces within the mediastinum testis. C. Epididymis composed of two parts Ductuli efferent: composed of the head of Epididymis which lined with simple columnar epithelium (tall ciliated and low non ciliated) which are responsible for characteristic fluted appearance of these tubules, their wall consist of fibroblastic and smooth muscle Ductus Epididymis: composed of the body and tail of Epididymis, its has typical round shape lumen which lined with pseudo stratified epithelium composed of basal and tall principal cells bearing steriocilia.
