3 CONTENTS Efferent ductules Epididymis Prostate gland

4 EFFERENT DUCTULES Simple epithelium Thin muscular wall
Saw tooth appearance of the lumen due to alternating groups of tall (ciliated) and short (microvilli) lining cells.

5 EPIDIDYMIS It is a single elongated duct composed of head, body & tail
4-5 m long, yet occupies an area of 5 cm long

6 1: Epididymis 2: Head of epididymis 3: Lobules of epididymis 4: Body of epididymis 5: Tail of epididymis 6: Duct of epididymis 7:DUCTUS DEFFERENS

7 FUNCTIONS Principle storage area for sperms Transportation
Resorption of fluid Acquire motility and ability to fertilize ovum

8 DUCTUS EPIDIDYMIS has a larger diameter lumen with a smooth outline and a thicker muscular coat

9 DUCTUS EPIDIDYMIS Androgen dependent maturation
Presents smooth internal as well as external contour Epithelium ---- Principal cells, Basal cells

10

11 Function of principal cells
Secretory & absorptive capacity for nurture & maturation of spermatozoa Head region active in fluid absorption Tail region Storage compartment

13

14 PROSTATE Largest accessory sex gland size & shape Location

15 ZONES Adult prostatic parenchyma is divided into four anatomically & clinically distinct zones: The peripheral zone The central zone The transitional zone

16

17 Corpora amylacea (prostatic concretions)
Prostatic epithelial cells (Simple cuboidal) produce: Enzymes especially PAP Fibrinolysins Citric acid Serine protease (PSA)
