1 SLIDE 162 Mature Testis dog 1
Male reproductive histology Objectives: 1. Recognise, draw and label the main structures of a section of functional testis and immature testis. 2. Identify the levels of the epididymis according to their cellular structural variations. 3. Label the regions of the spermatozoon. TESTIS SLIDE 162 Mature Testis dog Under low magnification; identify seminiferous tubules, lobules, connective tissue septa and tunica albuginea.. 1 At high magnification label the cell types which you can identify. Low Q 1. What magnification is best for identifying this section? Give reasons. Q Can you explain the appearance of tubules and cells from your knowledge of the architecture of the organ? Q What is secreted by the Leydig cells? Q Examine the tubules at higher power (X40). Are they structurally identical? Q Describe what you see. Can you explain what you see?

2 SLIDE 163 Immature Testis ferret
Compare with the previous slide. List the similarities and differences SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES Q What cell-types are evident in the tubular sections? 2 EPIDIDYMIS SLIDE 166 Identify the different regions of the epididymis: head-caput, body-corpus, tail-cauda. Q 7. What might this organ be confused with? Q 8. What distinguishing features can you identify? Q 9. What is the function of the cellular extensions projecting into the lumen? Q10. a. Is this tubular structure single or multiple? b. Can you decide that from the slide? Q11. Are all the sections of the tubule identical? YES/NO Q12. Can you relate your observation to function?

3 3 SPERMATIC CORD SLIDE This is a section through the spermatic cord proximal to the testis. In the picture below label the structures identified. Can you see the structure marked as J? E A F B C G J H D A B C D (look for nerve fibres) E F G H J 4 VESICULAR GLAND SLIDE 169 Look at this section. Then answer the questions below, with reasons. Q13. Does the gland possess a tubular structure or not? Q14. Is it secretory or not? Q15. Is the epithelium stratified, pseudostratified or simple? Q16. What kind of reproductive organ is it? Q17. What might be its function?
