STaR Chart Data Analysis Progreso East Elementary

School Technology and Readiness What is the STaR Chart? The Texas STaR Chart is designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, as well as meeting the goals of the district. The Texas Teacher STaR Chart can assist in the measurement of the impact of state and local efforts to improve student learning through the use of technology as specified in No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D. It can also identify needs for on-going professional development and raise awareness of research-based instructional goals.

Four Key Areas Teaching and Learning Educator Preparation and Development Leadership Administration and Instructional Support Infrastructure for Technology The Texas Teacher STaR Charts is an assessment tool developed around the four key areas of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology:

How is the information used? Professional development Funding Grants or other resources Accurate information Documentation Assist teachers in determining professional development needs based on a current educational technology profile. Determine funding priorities based on teacher and classroom needs. Provide data that can support the need for grants or other resources. Provide data that feeds into the Texas Campus STaR Chart so that more accurate school information is gained and documented. ‪‪‪ Help conceptualize the campus or district vision of technology.‬ ‪Assist campuses in documenting the use of No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D formula, and discretionary funds. ‬

Who is required to complete a STaR Chart? Certified classroom teachers Librarians All certified classroom teachers and librarians are required to complete the Teacher STaR Chart. The district can determine the deadline for teacher star chart submission based on the district intended needs: Campus STaR Chart, technology plan submission, E-Rate guidelines.

Teaching and Learning Key Area 1 focuses on the use of technology in the classroom and the knowledge of the Technology Application TEKS 2009-2010 Advanced Tech 2010-2011 and 2011 – 2012 Developing Tech

Educator Preparation and Development Key Area 2 focuses on whether or not educators have received and participated in professional development involving technology and the development of technology uses in the classroom 2009-2010 Advanced Tech 2010-2011 and 2011 – 2012 Developing Tech

Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support Key Area 2 focuses campus support to drive technology use in the classroom and on campus 2009-2010 Advanced Tech 2010-2011 and 2011 – 2012 Developing Tech

Infrastructure for Technology Key Area 4 focuses on the availability of technology and technological support on campus. 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 Developing Tech 2011 – 2012 Early Tech

Progreso East Elementary 2009-2012 Summary of Key Areas The following is a graphical representation of the data represented. For the most part we have seen a decline in levels of progress in each Key area with the exception of key area one (Teaching and Learning) where there was an increase from 2010-2011 to 2011-2012. For the past two years my campus has been able to remain a Developing Tech in All Key Areas with the exception of key area four (Infrastructure for Technology) was classified as a Early Tech declining from 2010-2011 to 2011-2012

Summary Training Understanding Importance Faculty Grade Levels The following are reasons to believe why the levels of progress over the years have declined. Being my fourth year at the district I have received no training over what the star chart is and how its evaluated. For this reason teachers may answer the questions to the best of their ability without really understanding the what is being asked. There is no importance placed on this evaluation tool. It is something that is given to us at the end of the year to fill out in a quickly manner with no emphasis placed. Over the years there has been many faculty changes at progreso east elementary and is now a 5th and 6th grade campus.

Recommendations Accessibility Professional Development Campus Plan and Goals Have technology readily accessible to educators and students for learning purpose. Provide professional development trainings over how to use technology (basic skills) and the implementation technology in the classroom. Create a campus plan and goals this is where a presentation over what Star Chart is and the results of previous years and as a campus we can develop of a plan of action.
