POLITICAL PARTIES TWO PARTY SYSTEM

NATIONAL CONVENTION Only meets before presidential elections in the summer. Nominate Pres. And VP. Adoption of party rules and writing of their platform.

NATIONAL COMMITTEE HANDLES (PARTY AFFAIRS MOSTLY SETTING UP THE NAT’L CONVENTION. COMMITTEEMEN AND COMMITTEEWOMEN ARE CHOSEN BY THE POLITICAL PARTY IN EACH STATE.

NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON HEADS THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE AND IS CHOSEN AFTER THE NAT’L CONVENTION FOR A 4 YEAR TERM. DIRECTS THE WORK OF THE PARTY AT THE HEADQUARTERS IN WASHINGTON D.C. WORKS TO STRENGTHEN THE PARTY, RAISE $, AND RECRUIT VOTERS.

CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE A COMMITTEE CHOSEN BY COLLEAGUES TO BE IN EACH HOUSE OF CONGRESS FOR 2 YEARS. THEY WILL WORK TO REELECT INCUMBENTS AND SAVE SEATS OF RETIREES.

THREE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE PARTY PARTY ORGANIZATION – LEADERS AND ACTIVISTS THAT RUN THE PARTY. PARTY IN THE ELECTORATE – THE PARTY’S VOTERS (STRAIGHT –TICKET OR USUALLY VOTE FOR THAT PARTY). PARTY IN THE GOVERNMENT – THE OFFICEHOLDERS.
