ADASs Automotive Electronics & Communication system branch: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Agenda 1. Introduction 2. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems 3. Problems with ADAS 4. Strategy Analytics 5. Conclusion 6. Q&A

1. Introduction More than 17,900 Casualties & 315.719 injuries Foremost reason is Safety (Unacceptable number of accidents)

1.1. Accident Causes Safety is Primarily a ‘Human factors’ case 90% of all traffic accidents are human failure Loss of control & failing to avoid a vehicle in the carriage way The absence of direct evidence of sleepiness or tiredness Vehicle defects, Environment, etc. More than 200,000 milliard rials each year

1.2. Electronic aids The prevention or reduction of traffic accidents Countermeasures needs to be devised and introduced Europe, the USA and Japan in front line Continuous research and development of new electronic driving aids Car manufacturers are keen on driver comfort Consumer acceptance is dependent upon: System Safety, validity (function correctly) and benefit Environmental issues are not decisive in this area yet, but will gain weight in the future

2. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Systems & subsystems on the way to fully automated highway system Automated Vehicle Guidance

2.1. History Prometheus initiative started around 1986 A series of projects aiming at urban traffic problems DRIVE (Dedicated Road Infrastructure for Vehicle safety in Europe) GIDS largest project in DRIVE-1 (1996) Requirements and design standards: 1-Driver’s detection and assessment 2-Guidance on the driver’s ability

2.2. Benefits and Functionality Reduction of driver Errors Enhancement of efficiency in traffic & transport (time is money!) Economical Cost & Pollution Bringing Comfort to the driver population

3. Problems with ADAS Increased Complexity System’s component failure Design errors Alertness and attention Acceptance Behavioral Changes Human supervision Complacency

Conclusion ADASs are one of the fastest-growing segments in automotive electronics. ADAS will be completely accepted and widely introduced in near future. Introduction of some sub-systems are technically possible now but public introduction on a large scale is waiting for safety provisions.
