1. Location Location can be described as a place’s position on the globe

Latitude: imaginary lines running parallel to the Equator Longitude: imaginary lines running north and south between the poles

The Equator is the imaginary line that splits the earth into 2 equal halves, or hemispheres between the north and south poles Latitude

Longitude Prime Meridian=0 ̊ through Greenwich, England Longitude lines, or meridians, run north and south between the poles Lines are measured east and west of Greenwich up to 180 ̊

Absolute Location The exact location of a place using latitude and longitude or a mailing address. Ex: St Louis is at 38 degrees north; 90 degrees west Ex: My house is located at 123 Main Street

Relative Location Is a place’s position in relation to the location of another place. Ex: Subway is just beyond McDonalds close to Publix

Physical Characteristics The physical (natural) features at a given location Examples: Mountains, lakes, rivers, climate, and vegetation

Human Characteristics Describes the human characteristics of a location. Examples include: Manmade statues Population, Language, &Culture Communication Systems Economic Systems Government Systems

3. Human-Environment Interaction How people change their environment to fit their needs and how people change the way they live in order to fit the environment they live in. Cut down trees Build Roads Buildings
