Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Hosea The prophet Hosea son of Beeri lived in the tragic final days of the northern kingdom which was destroyed by the Assyrians. At god’s command he married Gomer who was or became a prostitute. God uses Hosea’s wife and children to demonstrate His relationship with Israel. Hosea’s life served as a parable of God's faithfulness to an unfaithful Israel.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Hosea The charge of unfaithfulness against Israel God’s judgement of Israel Israel remains unrepentant Prophecies of Israel’s punishment God historical love for Israel God’s anger against Israel’s sins Prophecy of repentance to bring restoration

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Joel The prophet Joel warned the people of Judah about God's coming judgment, of the destruction throughout the land by the invaders. Joel tells the people to repent and turn back to the Lord. The prophecy of restoration and God’s blessing on the people

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Amos Amos prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah over Judah (792-740 B.C.) and Jeroboam II over Israel (793-753). Describes how God will not only come to judge the nations for their evil, but will also come to judge Israel for her breach of covenant through oppression of the people, empty religious ritual, and arrogant self-confidence. Then after judgment he says there will be a time of restoration and blessing under a revitalized leadership.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Obadiah The prophet Obadiah, having had a vision of disaster and destruction, warned the proud people of Edom (descendants of Esau) about the impending judgment coming upon them.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Jonah Jonah is called by the Lord to go and warn Nineveh that it will be destroyed because of it’s wickedness. Jonah hates Ninevah and tries to hide from the Lord, that Ninevah may be destroyed. He is imprisoned in a great fish but released having prayed to the Lord and been given the message a second time. Jonah delivers the message and it is heard by the King of Ninevah. All Ninevah repents of wickedness and it’s people are saved from destruction.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Micah Micah prophesied sometime between 750 and 686 B.C. during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. Israel was in an apostate(non believing) state. Micah predicted the fall of her capital, Jerusalem and Samaria. Warns against man’s wicked plans and also against false prophecy. Rebukes Israel’s leaders and prophets for leading the people astray.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Micah Warns of God’s judgement in the last days. Israel will be rebuilt as a strong nation by the Lord after many tribulations and a time of exile. Foretells a great ruler born in Bethlehem Rebukes Israel for it’s worship of idols Warns of the exile to come but also the rebuilding of the nation later

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Nahum The book contains the "vision of Nahum," whose name means "comfort." The focal point of the entire book is the Lord's judgment on Nineveh (the capital of Assyria) for her oppression of other nations particularly Judah, cruelty, idolatry, and wickedness. This vision/prophecy occurs 150 years after the story of Jonah

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Habakkuk Little is known about Habakkuk except that he was a contemporary of Jeremiah and a man of vigorous faith. The book bearing his name contains a dialogue between the prophet and God concerning injustice and suffering. Habakkuk calls on the Lord and is answered. Babylon will rise and rule for a time but will eventually be overturned by God. God tells Habakkuk the people must give up idolatry and be faithful to him if this is to come about

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Zephaniah The prophet Zephaniah was a person of considerable social standing in Judah as his blood line is listed. Lists the judgement and destruction of the peoples surrounding Israel and Judah Tells of judgement against Jerusalem Tells of the future restoration of Israel when the people turn back to faith.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Haggai Haggai was a prophet who, along with Zechariah, encouraged the returned exiles to rebuild the temple. He lived at the time of Darius the Great ruler of the Persian empire Cyrus the great had allowed the return of the Jews to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple The Jews found Samaritans inhabiting much of the area

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Haggai Due to interference from the Samaritans and the lack of drive on behalf of the returning Jews , who were more interested in building their own homes there was a long delay in building the temple. Haggai now encouraged Zerubbabel , governor of Judah, and Joshua son of Jozadak the high priest to get on with building the temple His prophecies clearly show the consequences of disobedience. When the people give priority to God and his house, they are blessed.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Zechariah Like Jeremiah and Ezekiel, Zechariah was not only a prophet, but also a member of a priestly family. Zechariah calls on the people to repent and turn back to the Lord who has promised to return to them if they are faithful. His visions are uplifting for the Jews The main message of Zechariah (and Haggai) was to rebuke the people of Judah, have them turn to the Lord in repentance and encourage and motivate them to complete the rebuilding of the temple.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Malachi Malachi, whose name means "my messenger," spoke to the Israelites after their return from exile. God answers Israel’s doubt about his power. He tells the priests they do not show respect and have defiled his table of offerings. The priests are warned that if they do not honour the Lord then they will be cursed. Priests should preserve knowledge, and teach the people about God.

Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible Bible Summary-The Minor Prophets Information summarised from Bible.org and the NIV Malachi  But your teachings mislead people, and have violated the Lord’s covenant with Levi. Allowing marriage to non believers, allowing divorce and withholding offerings also breaks the covenant. But God will remember the faithful and they shall triumph over the wicked and be restored to the Lord. The message of the book can be summed up as God will come not only to judge his people, but also to bless and restore them.
