Review for Test on China Bring a #2 pencil and a pen Essay Topic: TWO Human Rights Violations

1. Describe geography Most live in southeast- most fertile area. Monsoons hit the southeast. They grow rice because it grows in water. Develop belief in ethnocentrism.

2. What were the causes and results of the Chinese Revolution? Cause- Mao gained peasant support. Result- China becomes Communist under Mao. Creation of “Two China’s”- Taiwan and China.

3. U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. Violations. Human Rights- list of all the rights that every human being is entitled to. Example- One Child Policy- fines, punishment, destroy property. Example- Tiananmen’s Square- Pro-democracy demonstration.- Students killed for protesting.

4. Terms related to Mao A. Red Guard- Mao’s military force B. Red Book- Mao’s teachings and philosophy. C. Long March- Mao’s retreat into the mountains. D. Cultural Revolution- killed those who oppose him. Five Year Plan- Great Leap Forward- Didn’t work- Nickname- “Great Leap Backward.” Put peasants on communes.
