Book- It March- Landon Miss Talsma’s Newsletter Upcoming Events Red Oak Elementary Red Oak, Texas Volume 1: Issue 8 We are in our LAST month of the Book-It program for this school year! Encourage your student to finish this program strong! Even if they have not consistently participated, they can still earn a pizza certificate if they participate this month. Those who have participated each month and have met the class goal each month will enjoy an ice cream party on April’s Birthday Friday. Book- It March- Landon Third Quarter report cards will be send home the week following spring break. Writing Project/Presentation The students will be presenting their projects this week. Below is a breakdown of the days each student will present: Monday: Classroom Numbers 1-4 Tuesday- Classroom Numbers 6-10 Wednesday- Classroom Numbers 11-15 Thursday- Classroom Numbers 16-20 Friday- Classroom Numbers 21-25 Report Cards Upcoming Events 3/11- Birthday Friday, $1 jean day, and the end of 3rd quarter 3/14-3/18- SPRING BREAK! 3/21- Beginning of 4th Quarter 3/24- 3rd Quarter Report Cards go home, 1st Grade Easter Bag Hunt 3/25- Good Friday: No School 4/5-4/6: Math & Reading Benchmark Tests 4/8- Progress Reports go home 4/13- Early Release: Parent Conferences 4/25-4/29: Spring Book Fair 4/26- Parent Night: Future Grade Level Many students are beginning to test completely out of the first grade sight word list! Yippee! Those who test out will receive the Fry List of 1,000 frequently used words. The students are not tested on this list but are encouraged to continue learning at home. In order for a student to receive a “4” on their report card for sight words, they will need to be able to spell at least 100 of the original first grade list. Please make sure you are reviewing your student’s sight words with them each week. I will be attaching an updated list to your student’s 3rd quarter report card. Do you need parenting points?
