YORKTOWN ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER Important Dates for November: 11-2 College Day End of 2nd six weeks 11-7 through Book Fair 11-9 Report Cards go home Family Math & Science Night/Kinder performance Veteran’s Day program 11-14 through Benchmark Testing Thanksgiving Meal 11-21 through UIL competition in Shiner 11-23 through Thanksgiving Holiday Parent/Child Project: Attached is a paper turkey. Please cut out the turkey and help your child DISGUISE the turkey as a different animal or character in hopes of avoiding being caught for Thanksgiving Day dinner! Use any items you find in your home to create your turkey’s disguise. Some suggestions may be: a cat, Superman, a pilgrim, a ballerina, a football player, a doctor or a cheerleader. 2 Your child will be participating in Family Math and Science Night!
Counselor Corner The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered this Spring For elementary, the STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3-5; Writing at Grade 4; Mathematics at Grades 3-5; and Science at Grade 5.  Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing: Tuesday, March 28th 4th grade WRITING 5th grade MATH  Wednesday, March 29th 5th grade READING   Monday, May 8th 3rd & 4th grade MATH 5th grade MATH (retest)  Tuesday, May 9th 3rd & 4th grade READING 5th grade READING (retest)  Wednesday, May 10th 5th grade SCIENCE **Due to the importance of the STAAR test, please make sure there are no scheduled appointments or no early pick-ups on these days. Students do have the tendency to rush when they know they will be picked up early. Thank you for your continued support. The book fair will be open until 5:30- Check out all of the books in the library! Family Night will be held in the cafeteria at 5:45 and will start with a performance by Kindergarten! You will get to play math games and do a science experiment with your student! Y.E.S. THANKSGIVING MEAL NOVEMBER 8TH IS THE DEADLINE TO PURCHASE A TICKET FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL Y.E.S. THANKSGIVING MEAL ON NOVEMBER 18TH. TICKETS MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE!! College Day! To help encourage our students to talk about college and all of the possibilities, we will have college day on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Wear your favorite college shirt! 74 students went to Dairy Queen for ice cream for having perfect attendance for the first six weeks! Way to go!
