Waltham Road (Andover – North Star)

Welcome & Introductions Consultant: EMH&T Travis Eifert, PE Nick Shultz, PE City of Upper Arlington Tom Komlanc, PE

Presentation Outline Purpose & Need Opportunities Roadway, waterline, storm sewer Safety Enhancements Transportation Opportunities Gateway Enhancements Bikeway & Pedestrian Facilities Alternatives & Public Involvement Recommendations Funding & Phasing Timeline

Purpose & Need (Roadway)

Purpose & Need (Waterline) Records indicate the line was placed into service in 1930’s. There have been at least 4 documented water-main breaks within the last 10 years. Recommended upsizing of the existing 6” line to 8” from North Star to Northwest to increase pressure & fire flows

Purpose & Need (Storm Sewer) No defined storm sewer system Flooding problems in 5yr event along Northwest Does not meet current water quality requirements Ponding in roadway adds to roadway failure

Purpose & Need (Safety) Fire Accessibility Roadway width Parking Not functional with current width and 2-way traffic Traffic Calming Connectivity to Schools No regional pathway system throughout project Does not connect to bike path on North Star

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road too Narrow

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road too Narrow Not Wide Enough for Two-Way Traffic and Dedicated Parking 25’ Wide Currently, Should Be ≥ 30’ 1/3 of Reported Crashes on Waltham Road Involve Parked Cars Increased Emergency vehicle response time

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road/Northwest Boulevard

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road/Northwest Boulevard Crash Rate is Over Twice the Statewide Average for a Similar Type Facility Excessive Delays for Eastbound and Westbound Traffic Crossing Northwest Boulevard Poor Viewing Angle on East Leg Looking South Incorrect lane usage for vehicles turning northbound from Edgement to Northwest

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Lack of Pedestrian Features

Opportunities (Bike / Ped.)

Opportunities (Gateways)

Alternatives & Public Involvement Handouts & Discussion Pavement Section & Parking Northwest/Waltham Sidewalk or Multi-use Path Kinnear / Waltham / North Star
