PUBLIC GOOD Presentation to Congress March 2013

Why our Public Good agenda matters Because we’re incorporated by Royal Charter in the public interest – it’s our legal purpose Because we’re a registered charity and we have to provide evidence to keep our charitable status Because it makes us impartial and not motivated by profit Because it’s an important element of our brand value Because it generates public confidence and support Because it motivates staff and volunteers

Where does Public Good sit in our strategy? Connects and overarches the other themes Gives them their ultimate purpose   PUBLIC GOOD LEADING THE GLOBAL STANDARD MEMBERSHIP TRANSFORMATION GLOBAL EXPANSION KNOWLEDGE LEADERSHIP SUSTAINABLE GROWTH IN PRODUCTS & SERVICES

What does Public Good actually look like? The raison d’être of all chartered professional bodies but no standard approach Depends which face they want to present – a strategic choice Delivered through a range of activities Professional Standards Individuals Ethical Code Professional Standards Organisations Trusted Advisor Access to knowledge Fee banding and discounts Charitable activities Member volunteers Pro bono or services at cost

What we already do to deliver Public Good Individuals Organisations Professional Standard (knowledge and ethics) Access to education and training Access to knowledge Access to networks Philanthropy (CIPS Foundation) Voluntary activities Organisational Standard (Certification) Corporate award CSR/fraud prevention etc Sustainability, wealth creation Pro bono advice to government and other professional and charitable bodies Donor funded projects

So, over to you … How should we ensure we maintain and maximise our status as a Public Good body? What else could and should we do to leverage our Public Good credentials? How do we roll out this Public Good ethos globally? What would success look like in 2017 – can we set metrics? It takes time and money to do/promote Public Good – should we use our resources to do other things instead?
