Witch Trials Of 1692 In Salem BY: Nicole Snell, Paige Long, Ally Stanjones, Trevor Hillman.

Giles Corey He and his wife were executed during the Salem witch trials. Abigail Hobbes confessed to being a witch and mentioned Giles and his wife’s name. The only recorded man to be crushed to death under a pile of rocks He would have to undergo his torture until he confessed (witches names) 6 Months later his wife Martha and 6 other accused were brought to be hanged at Gallows Hill.

Giles Corey sentence to be crushed by rocks.

Martha Giles Because of her sarcastic response she was immediately brought to trial. She was then asked why she afflicted ten persons. Accused of biting, pinching, and strangling them. The court could not prove that she was a witch so she was put into custody Hanged a few months later

John Proctor The man that thought the hysteria of the girls being “afflicted” just needed a good spanking. The girls that were accused, accused him of witchcraft. Him and his family were put into jail. On August 19 they were scheduled for execution His daughter was given more time since she was pregnant.

John Proctor and his wife.

Sarah Osbourne One of the first three to be accused of being intertwined with witchcraft. She was accused by the Putnam family. She was in prison but died while shackled before her trial. She and Sarah Goode were the only ones who did not attempt to accuse others of witchcraft.

Rebecca Nurse She was sentenced to death because she was deaf. She had been found not guilty More outbursts in the court room led to her being accused again Accused for not being able to respond She was then sentenced to hang.

Rebecca Nurse at her trial.

Ann Putnam Sr. versus Rebecca Nurse Ann Putnam accused Rebecca Nurse of being a witch because Rebecca had 11 kids. While Ann Putnam had 8 kids but lost 7.

Ann Putnam who ended up with one child after having eight.

Thomas Putnam His personal goals in accusing people were to gain the land the accused would have to give up Married to Ann Putnam Sr. Helped his daughter Ann Putnam Jr. accuse citizens of witchcraft

Thomas Putnam who accused people of being a “witch” because he wanted their land.

How It Started The Goodwin children accused Goody Glover of bewitching them. After the villagers saw this more and more people were getting accused of being “witches” because they were not liked by villagers.

Parris and Williams versus Tituba Betty Parris and Abigail Williams were cousins who lived in the same house. They accused their slave, Tituba for their fits and seizures. They said she was in their dreams biting them and doing other horrid stuff. Tituba went to prison, the cousins would not pay to bail her out but a stranger did. Her fate is now unknown.

Bridget Bishop First executed in Salem Witch Trials on June 10, 1692. Accused because she didn’t care what society thought of her. Also she was the mistress at not one but two taverns. She was also always the center of gossip which made her an easy target.

Bridget Bishop was the first executed in the Salem Witch Trials.

October 8, 1692 On this day, Governor Phipps ordered that no spectral evidence (when someone claimed to witness a person's spirit in a separate location from that same person's physical body) could be used in witchcraft trials.
