Field Effect Transistor COEN 180 Field Effect Transistor

FET Strength of an electric field controls the conductivity of a connection. Junction FET (JFET) Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET).

JFET

JFET Conductivity Width of channel Positive gate removes negative carriers from channel. Negative gate widens channel.

Metal Oxide Semiconductor FET MOSFET

MOSFET Gate is isolated (through SiOxide) from the channel. Channel allows conductivity. Chokes off with negative gate. Widens with positive gate.
