The Move to Saigon 1. The family moves to Saigon to escape the war. 2. The North Vietnamese army captures Noi’s husband and when he returns his body and spirit are broken. 3. Noi’s husband dies of heartbreak.

During the War Bich’s father meets her mother while serving in the army. A year months later Ahn (Bich’s) sister is born. Not long after Bich is born.

The escape to America 1. Bich is 9 months old and the family (uncles, father, the sisters, Noi) escape Saigon on an American battle ship. 2. The family is in refugee camps for months until they are sponsored and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Rosa 2 years after the family moves to Grand Rapids Bich’s father meets Rosa. A few months after Rosa becomes a mother figure to Bich and Ahn. Crissey (Rosa’s daughter) is introduced to the family Bich’s father and Rosa marry. 2 months later Vinh is born
