LEARNING TARGETS: I can create a composition that demonstrates space in an artwork I can create value (and the illusion of form) using a wide variety of media and techniques I can create a realistic interpretation of objects ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Using media (and its individual characteristics) and appropriate techniques to create a realistic drawing of a still life.

EXPECTATIONS ACHIEVED 3.5 CRITERIA BELOW EXPECTATIONS 2.5 NEARING EXPECTATIONS 3 EXPECTATIONS ACHIEVED 3.5 ADVANCED 4 COMPOSITION Objects are off center, extremely small, or grouped so that the composition is unbalanced The still life fills much of the paper, but would be more interesting if it was larger and/or had less negative space Positive and Negative space are both part of the composition and the still life objects fill the paper Positive and Negative space are both interesting, the still life objects fill the paper and are balanced in their placement, successful balance PROPORTION/ STILL LIFE DRAWING Objects are not in proportion to each other, or to themselves Most of the objects are in correct proportion to each other and with their own details Proportions are correct and believable Proportions are precise between the objects and within the details of each object VALUE RANGE/ ILLUSION OF FORM Only 1 or 2, or no values present Objects appear flat 3 distinct values with some gradation between Objects look mostly flat, but there is a hint of form. 5 values that show highlights, shadows, and gradation between Value application creates form (objects look like they ‘pop’ off the page) More than 5 values that show highlights, shadows, medium tones, with smooth gradation Highly realistic form is created in the still life objects NEATNESS   Visible erase marks/ left over lines/ smears/smudges, fingerprints, wrinkles, holes or tears in paper. Lines are mostly clean, few erase marks, some choppiness in value application/gradation. Clean contour lines, value application/ gradation is mostly smooth, no erase marks visible. Clean and consistent contour lines, smooth transitions, no erase marks. CREATIVITY Teacher provided still life objects AND set up the still life Made still life arrangement using only teacher provided materials and/or very ordinary objects Still life objects work well together and show individual student made creative choices in selection of objects Unique choice of subject matter, artifacts/objects are expressive of the artist, and work well together
