Background Commerical companies have already started their services with “keyword”. In Dec. 1999, a Hangul Name WG was formed under Name Committee. Expanded into 6 sub-WGs: - Requirements - SLD - Registration Policy - Protocol - Coordination - Testing

Internet Names Requirements Not locked into Korean only solution Encompass both DNS and keyword No specific encoding point Legacy support Combination of Korean, English, Chinese 8-bit friendly BIND

Registration Policy (DRAFT) .한국: KRNIC Other Korean Internet Names (Keyword): Commercial Companies => We are still making consensus. Agent or Registrar ? Roles ? Should Reduce Domain Name Disputes Central DB in KRNIC (.한국) Need more check, discussion, consensus..

Hangul SLDs Two schools to be thought: - tanslation of full or sub-set of existing English SLDs Creation of completely new Hangul SLDs .kr SLDs 7 functional names 16 geographical names Creation of new Hangul SLDs exploit high popularity in co.kr

Future works There are several research projects related to Hangul Domain Name which will be finished within 2000. - Registration Policy - Protocol/Testing - Hangul Domain Name Dispute - SLD A Domain Name Dispute Organization will be launched outside KRNIC.
