2 What’s CDNC n CDNC ( The Chinese Domain Name Consortium) was formally established on May 20, 2000. n As an independent and non-profit organization, CDNC is responsible for coordination and standardization of Chinese Domain Name in the international community. n CDNC is an independent and open organization.

5 Organization Structure of CDNC The board of directors is the decision-making organ. The board of directors can set up several working groups to help do the work. Those who intend to join the Consortium must submit to the secretariat of the Consortium their applications that are subject to approval from the board of directors. 15 Suggestions on Ensuring the Equivalency of Variant Forms of Chinese Characters In Multilingual domain names, the traditional, simplified and variant forms of a Chinese character should be treated as one character, i.e. different forms (fonts) of a Chinese character should be treated equal during MDN registration and application processes, especially when resolving relevant disputes. 16 Suggestions on Ensuring the Equivalency of Variant Forms of Chinese Characters n Any organizations or institutions that provide CDN registration, DN resolution and Disputes Resolution Services shall comply with the “ List ”. Domain name registries and registrars shall equally manage certain Chinese characters in accordance with the “ List ” when carrying out MDN registration, and establish a normative database for domain name registration.

17 Suggestions on Ensuring the Equivalency of Variant Forms of Chinese Characters n Before launching the “ List ”, no domain name registration service provider shall officially provide Chinese Character contained MDN registration services. n The equivalent policy shall be incarnated and maintained in other Internet resource locating technologies and relative applications.

18 CDNC’s Basic Attitude for IDN n CDNC regards the most appropriate way to solve IDN issues is: IDN policies need not be made in hurry. It should depend on the development status of each language.
