Introduction Time Schedule Regulation (EC) 2135/98 – Article 2: 24 months from the Date of Publication of Annex 1B, vehicles put into service for the first time must be fitted with the Digital Tachograph 21 months from the Date of Publication of Annex 1B, Member States shall take measures to ensure that they are able to issue Driver Cards In the event that 12 months after the publication of Annex 1B, EC Type Approval has not been granted to any item of Recording Equipment (VU’s + cards), the Commission shall Propose to the Council (and the European Parliament) an extension of the 24 and 21-month deadlines © International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2005

Consequences of the Time Schedule Given that Annex 1B has been published on 5 August 2002: Digital Tachographs shall be fitted in new vehicles by 5 August 2004 Member States shall be able to Issue Cards by 5 May 2004 VU’s and Cards shall be Type Approved by 5 August 2003 © International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2005
