SPIRAL NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. Lay your material on a flat surface. Place your thumb and a couple of fingers on the cloth at the centre of design and start twisting. After each twist, flatten the material to keep the folds from rising. Bring all loose ends into the circle and twist until it looks like a pancake! SPIRAL Now take rubber bands, and without disturbing the shape, slide the bands under the cloth as show in diagram. For best results, use a paintbrush to apply colour to the front and the back. For an interesting effect, try applying 1 colour to the Centre and another to the outer area Leave for a few minutes, take the rubber bands off and unravel your design! NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. Eg. If you are using red and blue, areas where the two colours meet will be purple Only use a clean brush in dye, otherwise dyes will get contaminated with other colours

CIRCLES NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. The circle is relatively simple to create, yet it is easily one of the most dramatic! Just pick up the fabric with thumb and forefinger at the point you choose to be the centre of the Circle. Try to arrange the pleats to be fairly neat, like a closed umbrella Put a few rubber bands at the base. Make sure the ties/ rubber bands are very tight Variations: 1. Put a rubber band only at the base, 2. put a rubber band at different intervals, 3. poke the centre or tip down inside the rest of the circle NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. Eg. If you are using red and blue, areas where the two colours meet will be purple Only use a clean brush in dye, otherwise dyes will get contaminated with other colours

STRIPES NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. Lay cloth flat on a surface, and pleat fabric (try to do equal pleats) Be careful not to lose any pleats! Place rubber bands tightly to secure the pleats, not just at the end, but equally spaced VARIATION: Once you pleat in one direction, and get a strip, start pleating the strip in the opposite direction. This will give you a square pattern NOTE: Normal colour mixing applies. Eg. 1 2 3 5 6 4 SEWING LINES Place your pencil case front and back pattern together and sew a 2cm seam on the long side Using your fingers, open the seam and press flat (as photo) Place your zip on the seam, ensure zip teeth are in the centre of the seam line and pin in place 5 6 4 Using a zip foot, sew down the sides of the zip. You will need to move the Zip pull out of the way a few times. Ensure your needle is down when moving work. Remove from machine, turn over and using an unpicker, unpick the centre seam Test your zip and remove any excess thread
