Formal Business Letter Styles Block All parts will begin at the left margin. Modified Block Date line, Signature Block will begin at center point (6 TABS from left)
Formal Business Letter Basic Parts Letterhead Preprinted with company name, address, and phone number Date Will begin 2-2 ½” from the top depending on the size of the letterhead (use side ruler for placement) Letter Address Salutation Body Complimentary Close Name of Writer

Two-Page Letters At least 2 lines of the body of the letter must be carried to the second page. Avoid widows and orphans. Widow – single line carried to the top of the next page Orphan – single line left at the bottom of a page Second page requires a heading Top margin of second page is 1” Second page keyed on plain stationery – not letterhead
