English Literature paper 2… This paper is 2 hours and 15 minutes long. You will be required to: Answer one question on DNA from section A. 30 marks plus 4 marks for SPAG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar.) You should spend 45 minutes on this question. Answer one question on Power and Conflict from section B. 30 marks. Answer both questions on the unseen poems from section C. Part 1: 24 marks. You should spend 30 minutes on this question this question. Part 2: 8 marks. You should spend 15 minutes on this question this question.

English Literature paper 2… Formula to success with poetry: Learn your language devices/ poet’s methods: 1-Alliteration- The repetition of the same sound . 2-Plosives- The alliteration of C, D,F and B. 3-Sibilance – The alliteration of S. 4-Pathetic fallacy-Where the weather mirrors the mood. 5-Onomatopoeia- Sounding words- Bang, crash etc. 6-Anaphora- Another word for repetition. 7-Tripling- Three adjectives in a row. 8- Metaphor- A direct comparison using is or are. 9- Simile- An indirect comparison using like or as. 10- Caesura- A break in a line of poetry- either a comma or a full stop. 11-Enjambment- Misplaced punctuation in a poem (no full stops at the end of the line.) 12 Oxymoron- Opposites ( Living dead.) 13- Hyperbole- Exaggeration.                     

English Literature paper 2… Formula to success: Learn your language devices/ poet’s methods: 14-Symbolism- When an object is a symbol for something ( heart= love.) 15-Stanza- A paragraph in a poem. 16-Double entendre- Double meaning. 17- Assonance – The repetition of vowels, but with different consonants. 18- Personification- Giving an inanimate object a human quality. 19- Rhyme scheme- The rhyming pattern in a poem. 20- Iambic pentameter- 10 syllables in a line, every second syllable is stressed. 21- Verb- A doing word. 22- Adverb- A word to describe the verb. 23- Noun- A naming word. 24 -Adjective- A describing word. 25- Volta- A change in tone.
