Influential photographers that will help me within my work - assignment 1 By Carla Binder

Landscape/PORTRAIT photographer- Charlie Waite At first the award winning photographer Charlie Waite's style started as portrait this was when he was working within the British theatre and television in the acting industry and began taking many photos of actors for their portfolios and shows. However, then the style progressed and contrasted to being a landscape photographer this was influenced by going onto many locations where he's wife had worked for a tv series and began taking many photos to pass time . Charlie Waite's style conveys a dramatic and powerful affect to many of the landscape photographs he has taken through the details of surban buildings to the silent fields of the growing nature that surrounds him, which corporate's and enables him to use natural lighting throughout his many pieces of what I call art . All though I believe he does use the editing software adobe Photoshop as he has said within a interview to tamper with the contrast of the original photograph. Where he uses different filters such as sepia and black & white both of these filters can express a diverse emotion to another just by the angle or filter. As well as using a step ladder in some photos to give the image height. Which uses a digital camera to portray many of these images. Style

Landscape/PORTRAIT photographer- Charlie Waite Charlie Waite influences many people from the sense of detail he provide to the many emotions that can be expressed through one moment. With the exposure he uses to brighten up many of the photos to convey to many how powerful one image can be. He expresses how delicate each moment is in taking a image for example as he begins to say within a caption of this photo that he took within Italy, he had been “chasing these nuns that he had captured for 10 minutes as they were hurriedly walking in and out of the many arches”. Charlie Waite progressing on to making many more memorable pieces of art . He also began to produce workshops and lecture throughout the world to continue to influence others not through just his work but also through his teaching. Influence

As expressed on his official website his aim for his photos is to offer the viewer a glimpse, a moment of beauty and also aims to encourage a emotional response from the viewer based on the simplicity of the silent exchange which was the name one of many exhibitions in 2014, each of these photos will affect many viewers by the calmness that the colours can create too. His target audience is probably an audience that will produce a emotional response to the many photos he had taken which can create a sense of curiosity and mystery it can give to many it prevents this by the exposure, angles and height it can be taken at. Aim

Karen Knorr –landscape/portrait/animal photography Originally German landscape and portrait photographer Karen Knorr's style shows the amount of detail that you can get and show from just one photo from one of her collections which is called India song each one of these photos shows a different kind of bird in each one with a different interior, which expresses the how much culture India does have by the vibrant colours incorporated in to each background, the best thing about her style is that it enables you to focus on one thing each time you look at it you can see that image a different light to this whether it shows emotion or not. In this specific collection ‘India song’ focuses on the body language of the animal bouncing from the scene the photo is taken in. Style

Karen Knorr –landscape/portrait/animal photography She influenced many not just through her photographs of the amazing scenes that are brought to life but also through her teaching at many well known places such as Tate modern, art institute of Chicago and Harvard where she has lectured and exhibited internationally which of course has began to influence new and old photographers within the way she takes it to the originality she portrays. She is currently a professor of photography in the university for the creative arts in Farham , Surrey and also begins to develop future projects in Italy,Usa,japan and India. By creating expressed opinions and humour through many cultural backgrounds and photographs, in my view I believe it enhances the way you can look at the many images through the focus towards the angle where she mostly uses from the floor which almost has that sense of following it to the main object. This can show a narrow or clear view of the scene. Influence

Karen Knorr –landscape/portrait/animal photography The aim for one of her collections ‘ Fable’ is to focus on the animals behaviour and its relationship to human actions and short coming. Another one of her collections ‘ India song’ takes on the theme of ideas on power that underline cultural heritage which challenges fine art collections in many museums and academies in Europe through photography and video. Another aim is to inspire many people from her target audience to influence and focus on the detail and make a point through art whether its by society , culture or the many countries that signify this. Aim

How will these photographers influence my work? With both photographers having a huge drive and motivation towards what they do this is just one of the many influence's that they will give me throughout this assignment. As well as the originality they both bring to the table which will inspire me in what to incorporate with each collection they both have done. They both have a contrast on ideas such as Karen Knorr is very abstract where she focuses on animals, interior and body language rather than the emotion. Charlie Waite has a dramatic and emotional effect that makes you feel calm and peaceful, where as Karen Knorr will bring you happy and mysterious this is the main reason why I chose both of these photographers because it fits within my style of photography as I like to capture detail and nature at the same time whether that it landscape or animals.
