All About Hemispheres By Christina Dunne

What is a hemisphere? A hemisphere is half a sphere.

The Equator divides the world into the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.

The Prime Meridian divides the world into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

On the left is the Northern and Southern Hemispheres On the left is the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. On the right is the Western and Eastern Hemispheres.

What continents are in the Northern Hemisphere? The continents in the Northern Hemisphere are: North America, Europe, Asia, parts of South America, and Africa.

What continents are in the Southern Hemisphere? The continents in the Southern Hemisphere are South America, Antarctica, Africa, Australia, and some islands in Asia.

What continents are in the Western Hemisphere? The continents in the Western Hemisphere are North America, South America, and parts of Antarctica, Europe, and Africa.

What continents are in the Eastern Hemisphere? The continents in the Eastern Hemisphere are Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe, Africa, and Antarctica.

What continent is in all 4 hemispheres? The only continent in all four hemispheres is Africa.

What hemispheres do we live in? We live in North America, so we live in the Northern and Western Hemispheres.

Why do we need to know what hemisphere we live in?

Well, if you are planning on traveling, it helps to know if you are going to the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere.

When the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing spring and summer, the Southern Hemisphere is having fall and winter, so dress accordingly.

Did You Know? Many people living during the time of Christopher Columbus didn’t even know that the Western Hemisphere existed.

Columbus’s discovery of North America made people in Europe, Asia, and Africa realize that there was a new place to explore and discover. People began to refer to this new place as the New World. It was the land in the Western Hemisphere.
