TU4Dublin Draft Plan for Engagement and Internationalisation 8th December 2015 Contents 1. Introduction 2. Ten Priority Implementation Actions to June 2016 These are actions that are implementable now. They will promote the ideal of an engaged and internationalised TU to all stakeholders. 3. Full list of Implementation Actions These are the actions that have been identified as necessary to develop a truly engaged and internationalised Technological University. They flow directly from the draft plan in 4 below. 4. A detailed draft plan for Engagement & Internationalisation This plan was developed in mindmap format and converted to a slideshow. It is structured under five main headings: Outputs (Contributions to society), Culture, People, Enablement, Communications Note: The Internationalisation strategic objectives and actions identified to date have not yet been fully included in this draft.

1. Introduction This plan should be read in conjunction with the Background and Rationale document that was submitted in June 2015, which documented extensive consultations and discussions with staff, students and stakeholders on the vision for engagement and the rationale, underpinning principles, proposd outline structures and ways of working to maximise engagement. Some of the key statements to date on engagement: TU4Dublin will be a truly engaged institution that is co-dependent with all its key stakeholders An internationalised institution – curriculum, staff, student body, partners, cross-cultural capacity We will embed engagement in everything we do, from design and delivery of programmes to the student experience to developing our region and community. Engagement will be a key differentiator of the contribution that TU4Dublin will make to society; not through any specific activities but through the frequency and pervasiveness of engagement in our activities. Engagement will be a major element of the role of all staff, not just academic staff, and of all units, not just academic units.

2. Ten Priority Implementation Actions to June 2016 1. Run a call / competition for case studies of/proposals for good/innovative practice in engagement and internationalisation – within and outside the curriculum. Significant prizes in the form of student bursaries, partial relief of duties to further develop / write up / present at conferences. 2. Online showcases of materials – The Engagement Collection, The International Collection. 3. President’s Engagement and Internationalisation Awards Event: Annual event honouring outstanding achievements in Engagement and Internationalisation. Categories would include Civic Engagement, Industry Engagement, Public Engagement (public commentary in media etc.), Internationalisation and inter-cultural development; in the curriculum, co-curriculum and in direct engagement; with award categories for students, academic staff, professional services and support staff and external stakeholders. 4. International Conference on Engagement and Internationalisation; with Purdue University; invite other TU consortia to participate; Dublin May 2016. 5. Participate in a pilot of the Carnegie Community Engagement Assessment Framework in Ireland. This is an evidence-based documentation of institutional practice to be used in a process of self-assessment and quality improvement.  The documentation is reviewed to determine if the institution qualifies for recognition as a community engaged institution.

2. Ten Priority Implementation Actions to June 2016 6. Conduct a workshop with key local government stakeholders – Dublin City Council, South Dublin Co. Council, Fingal Co. Council, Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly, with a view to building on existing relationships and establish ongoing themed networks – eg EMRA with Local Enterprise Offices and Local Community Development Committees. 7. Develop an alliance-wide protocol for the sharing/optimisation of external contacts, with supporting systems (CRM) to follow with Digital Campus. 8. Identify/develop and deliver a training programme in entrepreneurial /innovative working in a changing environment for all staff, customised to the needs of different roles. 9. Develop recommendations on how to optimise revenue generation from engagement and international projects. 10. Develop an alliance-wide interface/portal/one-stop-shop for prospective collaborators/ clients from community, industry etc., building on the ConnectED project.

3. Full List of Implementation Actions Implementation actions were identifid under each of the plan headings – Outputs, Culture, People, Enablement and Communication.
