Priorities Funding Employer Needs Training Marketing Priorities Need funding to get people into training programs Need funding to support the National Training Center Employers are forced to cut back on funding for training Employer Needs Need better knowledge of the retirement numbers Need assistance in the early stages of the training process to help weed out individuals that don’t fit for the available jobs and to make more efficient use of limited training dollars Over 1200 applications for 22 apprenticeships There is an internal failure rate of 50% Opportunities exist for pre-apprenticeship training to serve as a screening process to increase the odds of an individual being successful Need a better handle on workforce projections The urgency has receded because people are holding off on retirement in the down economy, however the need is still looming Training Training and testing for CDLs is a costly process and can be a barrier for individuals entering the industry Need to look at technical job training the can lead into utility employment opportunities With the large number of skilled workers unemployed right now, are there ways to hire and upskill people from other skill trade areas Marketing Need to get more information out into younger environments Need to be up front about what utility jobs entail Better access to learning and curriculum that is common across multiple occupations (i.e. applied math, science, and technology) Priorities
