Need Money For College? Follow these steps to apply for grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships.

What is Financial Aid? Money to pay for college or career school •Scholarships: free money based on achievement •Grants: free money based on financial need •Work-study: part-time job •Loans: money that must be repaid FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

First, you apply for an FSA ID fsaid.ed.gov If you are a dependent student you and your parent each create your own FSA ID.

It All Begins with the “FAFSA” fafsa.ed.gov

Is My File Complete? Your financial aid is not complete until you receive an award letter from the school you are planning to attend. Your award letter may be mailed to your home address, sent to you by email, or viewed on your college student account. The award letter you receive will tell you what types of financial aid you qualify to receive for that academic school year. There may be additional steps or specific school policies that may affect your financial aid. Please read your award letter carefully!

Work-Study Jobs Eligible amount depends on financial need On Campus Employment Jobs are posted at the NC Financial Aid Office the second week of classes Flexible hours around your course schedule Paid monthly (last day of month)

Student Loans Types of Direct Student Loans Subsidized – No interest during enrollment Unsubsidized – Accrues interest during enrollment Student must be enrolled half-time (6 hours) Repayment begins after 6 month grace period Repayment period between 10 and 30 years. Fixed interest rate of Subsidized 4.45% Unsubsidized 4.45%

Scholarships Free scholarship search engines: FinAid on the Web: www.finaid.org GoCollege: www.gocollege.com College for All Texans: www.collegeforalltexans.com If you are receiving a scholarship from an outside source, please be sure to submit information about your scholarship to the Financial Aid Office.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) All students receiving financial aid are required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete at least 67% of the hours they attempt. If SAP is not met after the first semester, the student will be placed on a Warning status. After a second semester of not making SAP, financial aid will be terminated.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Students are also required to take only courses on the degree plan they are following. Courses taken outside the degree plan are not covered by financial aid. Once you have attempted 150% or more of your degree plan, you will no longer be eligible to receive financial aid.

Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used All students who receive a Pell grant have a maximum of 6 years or 12 full-time semesters to complete a bachelor’s degree. Track your progress at www.studentaid.gov.
