Writing Narrative Stories

What makes a Well -Written Paper? IDEAS ORGANIZATION STYLE CONVENTIONS

Ideas The writing process should be used to organize ideas. Use writing webs, free writing, and brainstorming to get ideas on paper.

Ideas Ideas should be relevant and focused on the topic/purpose Make sure that ideas are fully developed by using supporting details in each paragraph.

Organization All narrative papers should contain a clear beginning, middle, and end. Be sure to develop the plot, setting, and ending of your story.

Organization (Transitions) Transitions should be used when moving from one paragraph to the next. Use words like first, next, finally

Conventions (Grammar) Use words in the right context Make sure that words have subject/verb agreement

Conventions ( Spelling) Make sure that all words are spelled correctly Use the correct word forms

Punctuation, Capitalization, and Indentation Sentences should have correct internal and end punctuation. Sentences start with capital letters and all proper nouns are capitalized. Indent at the beginning of all paragraphs.

Introduction The introduction is the first thing that your reader will see, so it is important to immediately grab their attention!

Introduction (Hook Your Reader!) Hook with exciting dialogue (narrative writing) You can also use descriptive language such as sensory details to hook your reader.

Be Descriptive(Style) Make sure you use figurative language such as similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, and imagery throughout your story to keep it interesting.
