1 Self-Editing Your Paper Tips to editing: Round #1 How to do dialogue will be in the second PowerPoint next week: Round #2

2 First, typing basics: All things typed on the page are in “Times Roman,” size 12 font Name, date, hour in the upper left corner Creative title, centered The body of the paper is double-spaced

3 Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation: Check that all words are correctly spelled – is the right form of [their, there, they’re] or [your, you’re] or [ to, too, two] used? Are all sentences COMPLETE thoughts? The must have a subject and a verb! A words which need to be capitalized, capitalized?

4 Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation: D,I sentence patterns have a comma Why it needs a comma: the “D” part is not a complete sentence. Ex.: Even though it was cold, I wore shorts to the game. Ex.: Then, the wide receiver ran down the field.

5 Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation: Titles of books and movies are typed using italics… and key words are capitalized Titles of poems and songs have “quotes” around them … and key words are capitalized

6 Paragraph Check Have you indented for each new paragraph? Structure and Organization Do you have a complete plot line? Does your introduction have a “hook,” something to catch our attention and make us want to know more? Does the conclusion sum up the impact of the event upon you or the lesson learned?

7 Figurative Language Add in a few of the following: similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia…. Google examples online if you need ideas! Descriptive Words- the 5 Senses Do you “show and describe” with words? Ex.: Do this! Her brows furrowed tightly and her face pinched into a tight scowl, Traci shrieked “Get out of my room!” Not this! Traci was angry and yelled at me.
