Spyware, Video Gaming Addiction, Netiquette, and Binary Numbers Jeopardy By Shoshana Davidoff-Gore, Laurel Easterling, Sophia Goldman, and Camille Radford

Spyware

What is Spyware? Spyware is a computer program that can attatch itself to computers Spyware is designed to : track internet habits of users bombard users with unwanted sale offers generate traffic to the website that hosts the spyware. Spyware is not designed to destroy a computer

How Does Spyware Infiltrate a Computer? Spyware can masquerade as a: pop up prize window browser add on anti-spyware program that is appealing to the user. When clicked on, the spyware infiltrates the computer. Spyware can also be downloaded in software programs Spyware can be obtained in a drive-by download, where the computer automatically attempts to download itself to a user’s computer.

What does Spyware Do? It can effect the user and the efficiency of the computer by hogging up RAM memory creating excess ads so that the internet browser becomes useless recording passwords and other private information. Spyware can be prevented by: using a spyware scanner prevent spyware using a pop-up blocker to prevent ads containing spyware being suspicious of installing new software using an X to close pop-up windows disabling Active-X, which allows certain programs to take on a computer.

Video Gaming Addiction

A person may be addicted to video games when they seclude themselves from family, friends, and general chores and work. Denial is also usually a problem in an addict. The problem with being an addict is the effect on one's life. Adults specifically will have issues with their families, jobs, relationships and life in general. While stopping this addiction is difficult, there is help available: groups for addicts to talk about their addiction, psychological help, but first, acceptance. Typically men under the age of 30 are the majority of video game addicts, but anyone able to use the game can be affected.

Netiquette

Netiquette Netiquette combines the words “network” and “etiquette”. It refers to the practices used on the internet to ensure politeness.

Rules of Netiquette Don’t post things that are hurtful to others. Only post things that you are an expert on. When emailing, copy as few people as possible. Do not chastise others for their mistakes, we are all merely human. Respect your power on the internet.

Don’t publish private information. Present information in an organized and concise fashion to help readers. Always make yourself look good. Always remember: Only say what you would say to your grandmother.

Who does netiquette apply to? Netiquette applies to everyone who uses the internet or emails. Why is netiquette important? Netiquette helps to prevent misunderstandings and hurt feelings. It also helps people to evaluate information. It is polite.

Common ways that netiquette is violated: People post personal information. People post mean things about others. Information is disorganized or is incorrect.

Binary Numbers

Binary Numbers Binary numbers are not made up numbers they are regular numbers just used in a different way. The only numbers are 0 and 1 and are most commonly used in electrical and computer applications. When you type in a number on the computer the only thing the computer sees are 0s and 1 the number that are represented with either 0 or 1 are 512,256,128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1. If I wanted only the number 14 the computer would see 0,0,0,0,0,0,1,1,1,0.

This is how you figure out the binary numbers for 14. 512 256 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 14-8=6 6-4=2 2-2=0 The binary number would be 0000001110.

Netiquette for $300 When should netiquette be observed? Never. It is not important at all. It is not always necessary and should only be observed occasionally. Only on social networking sites. Netiquette should always be observed, no matter what type of site a user is on.
