Welcome to the Year 6 SATS meeting Thursday 14th January

What are the new Key Stage 2 SATS like? SATS stands for Standard Assessment Tasks. Based specifically around the new National Curriculum 2014 objectives. More challenging with higher standards and expectations National tests are taken by all year 6 pupils. Teacher assessment of the new National Curriculum standards from year 3 to year 5. Tests will take place from W/C Monday May 8th 2017 – a timetable of test times will be given closer to date.

When do they take place? Week beginning Monday 8th May More detailedinformation, about the week itself, nearer the time.

What tests will my child sit? English Reading One hour -36 questions -50 marks Secure (100 scaled score – was 21 out of 50 (old 4B) Papers found online at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/key- stage-2-tests-2016-english-reading-test-materials

What tests will my child sit? English Writing Teacher assessed/moderated by external moderators from LEA Very high standards and expectations (see example in pack and levels)

What tests will my child sit? English Spelling, grammar and punctuation (SPaG) Spellings 20 words - 20 minutes (close procedure style, teacher reads) 20 marks Grammar and Punctuation 45 minutes - 50 marks – 49 questions Total Marks - combined SPaG 70 marks Secure - Maybe 43-46 (old 4B) Papers found online at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/key- stage-2-tests-2016-english-grammar-punctuation-and-spelling-test-materials

What tests will my child sit? Maths Arithmetic Test A Test 30 minutes - 36 questions – 40 marks Reasoning Test B Test 40 minutes -20 questions - 35 marks Reasoning Test C Test 40 minutes – 20 questions – 35 marks Total Marks – 110 Secure Mark – 60 (Same as old 4B) Papers found online at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/key- stage-2-tests-2016-mathematics-test-materials `

What will my child have to score to pass their SATs? Achieving 100. Reading – 20-21 marks out of 50 gave 100 scaled score Writing – Teacher judgement based on interim framework Maths – 60-64 marks out of 110 gave scaled score of 100 SPaG 43-47 0ut 0f 70 gave 100 scaled score

How have we prepared in school? We practise! We have already worked through a number of similar papers. Covered all necessary topics in lessons, making learning fun and hands on. Regular informal assessments to make sure they are on track and spot any problems. Small group work with targeted pupils to tackle issues during assemblies and lessons. Past questions to help children with SATs wording. Encouraged them to ask for questions to be read to them. Encouraged them to talk about any worries or issues they have. Preparing SATs groups after school and a SATs holiday club at Easter

How can you help at home? English Support them with the new homework booklets - follow the guides to use the correct methods Support their spelling and vocabulary – use dictionaries to explain words when reading Ensure your child is reading every night for 20 minutes Log on to Bug Club BBC revisewise

Maths How can you help at home? Support them with the new homework booklets – follow the guides to use the correct methods Practise arithmetic maths activities and KIRFs Log on to My Maths and Purple Mash BBC revise wise Twinkle (excellent practice material) Maths Magician Conker Maths
