Fold Mountains By Caitlin and Esme. Fold mountains form over millions of years, as layers of the Earth's crust fold on top of each other. Millions of.
Most mountains are large areas that have been uplifted due to the movement or heating of plates.

EARTH MOVEMENT AND MAJOR LANDFORMS FOLDING

FOLDING Folding is the wave-like upliftment of sedimentary rocks due to horizontal forces from two opposite -side. Folding happen when a part of the crust is pushed against another.

Syncline– down fold Anticlines – up fold

YOUNG or NEW FOLD MOUNTAINS Young less than 65 million years old. Includes today’s major mountain ranges: Andes, Himalayas, Rockies & the Alps. Not ‘old’ fold mountain such as the lakes.

OLD FOLD MOUNTAINS Old fold mountains were formed in a similar manner but more than 200 million years . These have been eroded and worn down and have rounded packs.

summary Folding is the upliftment of sedimentary rocks. There are old fold mountains and young fold mountains. Syncline-down fold Anticline –up fold
