I am The Resurrection And The Life

OBJECTIVE: Jesus is the resurrection. Identifying Jesus in this way means that He is The Son of God, Powerful and Authoritative, The bringer of hope, The bringer of life, The Promiser, The Overcomer, The Future. OBJECTIVE: Each hearer will be able to grasp the significance of this claim, understand how it relates to us today, and relate how this affects our future.

AIM: I want to convincingly show that the history of the resurrection, our baptism, and the hope we have for the future should motivate each individual to more dedicated service in their life to the Christ.

John 11:25-26 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

About the Resurrection Most central doctrine of Christianity (1 Corinthians 15). John’s statement: John 19:35 “And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.”

The “I am” statements. This one “I am” statement tells us more about Jesus than any other statement. Who is Jesus? He is the Son of God. He is the one who has power and authority. He is the one who brings hope. He is the one who gives life to the dead. He is the one who promises a great future for the faithful. He is the one who overcame death. He is the one who saves through baptism.

Identifying Jesus as the resurrection identifies him as ... THE SON OF GOD Only the Son of God could make such a claim. John 11:27 “She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” John 9:35 "Do you believe in the Son of God?” John 20:30-31 The resurrection of Lazarus from the dead substantiated His claim as the Son of God. His own resurrection provides undeniable proof that He is who He says He is.

Powerful and Authoritative Read John 11:39-45  There was no doubt concerning his own power in this act.  With great confidence and power Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.  Notice the great result-people acknowledged his authority. 2. With the same power, Jesus was resurrected. The same authority accompanies this power. 3. John 5:25-27 4. Peter preached of this power and authority in Acts 2:22-36. 5. Paul acknowledged this power in Philippians 3:8-11

He brings new life to those who put their trust in Him.  Romans 6:6-8  Colossians 2:10  2 Corinthians 5:17 4. He brings eternal life to those who believe on him. 5. John mentions eternal life more than any other gospel writer.  John 3:36 ; John 6:40; Romans 6:23

Through this statement, Lazarus overcame the bonds of death and was resurrected. Jesus has overcome death itself never more to die. He is the firstfruits. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 We shall also overcome death nevermore to die if we believe in Him and are faithful to Him. Read 1 Corinthians 15:50-57; Romans 6:8-11

“I am the resurrection and the life” speaks volumes. The statement, “I am the resurrection and the life” speaks volumes.  He is the Son of God.  He is powerful and authoritative.  He is the bringer of life.  He is the bringer of hope.  He is the Promiser of salvation.  He is the Overcomer.  He is the Savior.

Are you faithful to Him today? Your hope rests in Him. If you are not a Christian this morning . . . Jesus resurrection provides for your salvation today. Become his disciple through accepting the power of his resurrection. Hear the word; Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing . . .” Believe with all your heart; Hebrews 11:6 “For without faith it is impossible . . . .” Repent of your sins (Acts 17:30). Confess Jesus as the Son of God (Matthew 16:16). Be Baptized for the remission of your sins (Mark 16:15-16).
