Welcome To Mrs. Zughayyer’s Fourth Grade Classroom Open House September 1, 2016

My Goals Challenge students to do their best and grow as a learner Learn through a variety of ways: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity Encourage group work and cooperative learning Meet the needs of each individual student Become independent learners

Rules/Expectations Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect the School, Be Ready to Learn Students earn bananas for great behavior. Marble Jar

Safe Schools/ Second Step Mrs. Hazen and Mrs. Kuk met with the students to describe how we can keep our school safe. The poster demonstrates each student’s pledge to help keep our school safe. Second Step program will have lessons to address social emotional learning

Weekly Vocabulary Three Common Core Words are analyzed every week Words will be sent home every Friday (newsletter) Students will map each word These words are aligned with the key concepts we are learning in reading workshop Vocab quiz every Friday

Reading Requirements Read 20 minutes a day Log their reading in their Reading Logs nightly (title, minutes read) Students should write a written response to one reading from the week Logs do every Friday Logs might be graded at times. 4 books a quarter (See independent reading expectations)

Reading & Writing Workshop Weekly lessons on different reading and writing strategies Guided practice in school Students will be given formative and cumulative assessments throughout and at the end of reading and writing units

Math Nightly homework to practice skills taught in class Online component- directions to log on are available on my webpage to access activities and textbook Quick checks and unit test

Science/Social Studies Integrate non-fiction reading strategies such as text features and note taking Students allowed to use notes on all quizzes and tests Less emphasis on memorization and more emphasis on applying concepts

Homework Policy Assignment book on iPad Amount will vary Reading requirements and math facts Very important to help your child be organized!

Correct and Returns Students must correct and return assignments with this written on it Students have a choice to correct and return other work Corrected answers are given half credit Exceptions (T/F, matching, timed tests, etc.)
