Adjective/Noun Agreement It all has to match!

Number and Gender Adjectives are words which describe nouns or pronouns. In Spanish, all adjectives must agree in number and gender with the nouns they describe. Gender: nouns are either masculine or feminine. Number: nouns are either singular or plural.

How to use adjectives Unlike English, in Spanish, adjectives usually follow the nouns they describe. Ex. Una casa grande. (a big house)

To describe one person or thing, use: es + a singular adjective. Ex. El chico es alto. (the boy is tall) La chica es alta. (the girl is tall)

To describe more than one person or thing, use: Son + a plural adjective. Ex. Los libros son buenos. (the books are good) Las clases son buenas. (the classes are good)

If you are describing a group of males and females, use: a masculine plural adjective. Ex. Mis amigos son simpaticos. (my friends are nice)

Adjectives ending in –e or a consonant such as l, r, or n have only two forms: singular and plural. To make these adjectives plural, add –s or –es. Ex. El libro es interesante. (the book is interesting) Los libros son interesantes. (the books are interesting) La clase es dificil. (the class is difficult) Las clases son dificiles.(the classes are difficult)
