Zonal Game Organization Coaching Points Area 30x50 split into 3 zones Ball Player Organization Area 30x50 split into 3 zones 2x defensive zones of 30x20 One midfield zone of 30x10 10 players Teams play 3-1-1 12 players teams play GK 3-1-1 14 players teams play GK 3-2-1 Players are restricted to their zones If they want to break out of any zone they must dribble Players can play direct and not do the requirement but must stay in their zones One the opponents gains possession in another zone or the ball goes out of play all players must retreat back Coaching Points Phase 1 playing out of the back Awareness of striker Establish possession in the defensive third Team Shape Awareness of pressure Recognition of space in defensive third Speed of play Younger players coach technique Older players coach disguise On break out can midfield player create space Coach the players to recognize if breakout is good or if they need to go back and build or invite more players in Phase 2 midfield Awareness of the striker Can the midfield player recognize visual cues of when to do an overlap The player on the ball passes and follows The player on the ball stops or dribbles towards support Finish the overlap in a position to unbalance the back line Receive the ball for the overlap facing the opponents goal Recognition of where the run will end Recognition of unbalance
