Assignment You will be dissecting a song looking for the poetry elements we have been discussing. You will create a PowerPoint Presentation with at least eight slides. The presentation must include the following items: Title Slide will contain the title of your song and your heading. Image Slide will contain an image and explanation as to why you chose this song. Last 6 Slides will contain examples of at least six poetry elements. You choose the six poetry elements. Back

Review of Poetry Elements Onomatopoeia and Alliteration Assonance and Consonance End and Internal Rhyme Personification and Imagery Simile and Metaphor Hyperbole and Rhyme Scheme Assignment

Onomatopoeia and Alliteration Onomatopoeia is the use of words whose sounds echo their meaning, as cuckoo or boom. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of two or more nearby words, as in apt alliteration's artful aid. Back

Assonance and Consonance Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in words, as in penitent and reticence. Consonance repetition of consonant sounds either within or at the ends of words, as between the s and t sounds in sweet silent thought Back

End Rhyme and Internal Rhyme End rhyme the rhyming of words at the end of the lines, as in stanza one of Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening": Whose woods these are I think I know, His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow Internal rhyme is the rhyming of words within the lines Back

Personification and Imagery Personification gives human traits to something that is non-human Imagery language that helps a reader recreate, in his or her own mind (smell, taste, touch, sight, hear): the dim imagery of a dream. Back

Simile and Metaphor Simile Metaphor Simile is the comparison between two unlike things using like or as, as in “she is like a rose.” Metaphor is the comparison between two unlike things without using like or as, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.” Back

Hyperbole and Rhyme Scheme Hyperbole is an overstatement used to emphasize a point, as “to wait an eternity.” Rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhymes used in a poem, usually marked by letters to symbolize correspondences, as rhyme royal, ababbcc. Back

Discussion Questions DQ 1 (Due Tuesday): Locate a poem on www.famouspoetsandpoems.com and describe what the poem is about. Discuss the types of poetry elements used and identify what type of poem it is. Be sure to share a link to your poem. DQ 2 (Due Thursday): Which poetry elements do you like the most? Choose at least three and give examples of the elements. When responding to others come up with another example for their elements. Expectations
