Changes in women’s integration

People’s rights, responsibilities and opportunities mustn’t be determinated by the sex.

1996- The European Community adopted an approach of «gender integration». 23/24 March 2006- Presidency of the European Council’s conclusions encouraged the European States in promoting politics that make the equal opportunities really effective. 2007- It was the European Equal opportunities year.

The European Union encourages the overcoming of the inequality between men and women, by…

Offering the same formative chances

Giving the same opportunities of access to the world of work

Paying the same attention to their health and wellness

Paying the same remuneration for the same work

Ensuring the same political partecipation in the decisional structure.

The inequality between women and men is disappearing also in Italy , thanks to the overcoming of the stereotypes and preconceptions on the women’s roles and abilities. Laura Boldrini President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies

Cècile Kyenge, native of the Republic of Congo, is the present Italian Ministry of Integration Cecile Kyenge, Ministry of Integration, 11

The Italian Ministry of Equal Opportunities has the important role of ensuring the equality between men and women in every areas of life.

A recent Italian research about stereotypes and discriminations For the majority of citizens ( 57.7 %) the situation of men in our country is better than the women’s one. For four out of ten citizens (43.7%), women are victims of discriminations, that is they are treated worse than men. Anyway some stereotypes about traditional gender roles have been overcome: In fact 77.5 % of the population does not agree with the view that men must take the most important decisions concerning the family. The vast majority of the population disagrees with the statements: "men are better leaders than women" ( 80.3 % ) " men in general are better political leaders than women “ ( 79.9%). 67.7 % of the population believes that : " for a woman family responsibilities are an obstacle for becoming a leader or a manager”. for 89 , 2 % " men should participate more in the care and education of their children " 87 ,7 % says that " in a couple in which both partners work full-time , housework should be divided equally “. 9th December, 2013

/ Free circulation of people and ideas, equal work and formative opportunities are changing the society, so that power and privileges don’t depend by the gender’s differences, but by culture and virtue».
