Presentation transcript:

M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC Canada has invested $70 million of the equipment that is now a crucial part of the CERN LHC accelerator complex & ATLAS particle physics experiment. Initially work was on the upgrades to the injector synchrotrons; From 1998, significant contributions to Data Acquisition Boards, Injection Kicker Systems and Beam Cleaning. Schematic LHC layout showing the various rings and Canadian components supplied 10th September 2008 M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC

M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC TRIUMF - development of digital acquisition boards for the beam position monitors and beam-beam interaction studies. This design has become a CERN standard and is now planned for use in the transfer lines and for the beam loss monitors 10th September 2008 M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC

M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC BEAM CLEANING The last of 52 of the high precision, twin-aperture, quadrupole magnets supplied by Alstom, Canada 10th September 2008 M.J. Barnes : Canadian Involvement with LHC

5 Resonant Power Supplies 9 PFN’s Constructed 20 Switch Tanks & 10 Terminators 5 Resonant Power Supplies TRIUMF carried out in-house the design, prototyping, fabrication and testing of the resonant power supplies and pulse forming networks that power the kicker magnets used for injecting the proton beam into the LHC rings. This work required extensive computer simulations to meet the demanding requirements of pulse uniformity and stability. INJECTION KICKER SYSTEMS 10th September 2008 M.J.
