Agenda- January 30 Executive Branch Power Point Notes Executive Branch Summary- using Chromebooks or the textbook find the answer to the questions that talk about specifics in the Executive Branch.

Executive Branch Consists of the President, the Vice-President and his Cabinet (Presidential Advisors selected by the President). Main job of the President- enforce the laws and help carry out the duties and responsibilities of the federal government.

The Basics of the Executive Branch? Requirements of the President MUST be a natural-born citizen. Must be a resident of the U.S for 14 years. Must be a minimum age of 35 years old. Terms of Office The President’s term is 4 years. The President can serve for 2 elected terms. (22nd Amendment) The President can serve a maximum of 10 years.

The Cabinet- Advisors to the President The Cabinet has 15 different departments. Each department has its own duties and responsibilities. Executive Order The President has the authority to establish a rule or order called the Executive Order. Since 1789, over 13,000 have been established. It stems from Article II (2) of the Constitution that says the “grant of the executive power which combined with the “Commander and Chief title allows for this. Examples of Executive Orders Lincoln- Emancipation Proclamation Franklin D. Roosevelt- Executive Order 9066. Relocation to internment camps of the Japanese Americans that were living in the United States John F. Kennedy- 1960’s barred discrimination in federal housing, hiring, and contracting.

Examples of Executive Orders Obama-  executive orders that will protect up to 5 million undocumented persons temporarily without fear of deportation. Trump- Temporary ban of immigrants from specific Muslim-dominated nations.
