IB Mission Statement The IBO aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. Inquirer What is an inquirer? What does this kind of student look like in a classroom?
Thinker What does a THINKER student look like in the classroom?
Principled Why would these people be considered principled? What does it mean to be principled? What does it look like? A father, Mother Teresa, the Pope, parents – why would they be principled?
Risk-Taker What does a Risk-Taker look like? Why do these people look like risk-takers? What would a risk-taker look like in the classroom?
Caring Why do these people look caring? What makes a student look caring in the classroom or around the school?
Chat it up! 1’s and 2’s: Choose the IB Profile word that is most like you. 1’s: Talk about your word for one full minute 2’s: Listen to the 1’s. Now talk for 1 minute about how you could increase your usage of the IB learner profile word they chose.

Three Fundamental Concepts Intercultural Awareness Holistic Learning Communication Communities should encourage and promote international-mindedness by engaging with and exploring other cultures Builds understanding and respect Encourages students to see issues from multiple perspectives. All knowledge is interrelated Links between subject areas (i.e., Areas of Interaction) Curriculum should cater to the development of the whole person (i.e., IB Learner Profile) Stresses good command of verbal and non-verbal communication A good communicator in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication Discuss international-mindedness, respecting others with differences, and being flexible to other perspectives on issues. Discuss how all learning is connected through all subjects. Discuss the importance of being a good communicator.
