Session Overview

Session Overview Main purposes of Title II, Part A and Title VI Examples of allowable costs for each program Exploring what the Program Details pages look like in ePlan

Title II, Part A: Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers and Principals

Title II, Part A: Program Intent & Purpose Improve teacher and principal quality through professional development in core academic areas Develop and implement programs to effectively recruit and retain highly effective teachers, principals, and specialists in core academic areas

Title II, Part A: Allowable Costs Recruiting and retaining highly effective teachers and principals Training teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators Recruiting and hiring for hard to staff positions Building teacher capacity Hiring teachers to reduce class size

Title II, Part A: Things to Reminder Funds cannot be used to purchase student materials. Other than class-size-reduction teacher salaries/benefits, funds cannot be used to provide direct services to students. Professional development must focus on core academic subjects.

Title VI, Part B: Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP)

Title VI, Part B: Program Intent & Purpose Funds to support rural and low income schools in meeting the state academic achievement standards Two available grant programs: Small Rural Schools Achievement (SRSA) Rural and Low Income Schools (RLIS) Eligibility for grants determined by the TDOE LEAs may only receive grant funds through one of the available programs.

Title VI, Part B: Eligibility SRSA Eligibility (Funds directly to LEA by USEd) 600 < students enrolled OR ALL schools located in counties with less than 10 people per square mile All schools have rural locale code assigned by NCES RLIS Eligibility (Funds to LEA by TDOE) At least 20 percent census poverty Funds applied for through ePlan and part of the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA)

Title VI, Part B: Allowable Costs Title VI funds may be used to support one or more of the following ESEA programs and activities, including: Title I, Part A Title II, Part A Title III Title II, Part D (educational technology) Title IV, Part A (safe and drug free schools) Title II, Part D and Title IV, Part A have not received a federal appropriation for several years, so new funds have not been available to LEAs. However, Title VI funds can still be used to support allowable activities under both.

Title VI, Part B: Things to Remember Funds take on the identify of the program they are supporting and must be used in accordance with program requirements. Funds used in support of Title I, Part A can only be spent in Title I schools. Funds used in support of Title II, Part A cannot be used to pay for direct services to students (except CSR).

Gallery Walk In your group, read what is posted on the chart paper at each station and discuss. Each group should write their responses, thoughts, and comments on the chart paper. Each group will rotate to the next station. Groups will read and discuss the previous group’s response and add content of their own. Repeat until all groups have visited each station. How to Use 1. Write Create six questions or prompts about the current topic of study, and write each one on a piece of chart paper or on a white board. Hang or place the questions or prompts in various places around the classroom to create six stations. Images, documents, problems, or quotes may also be used. 2. Group Group students into teams of three to five students, depending on the size of the class. Each group should start at a different station. 3. Begin At their first station, groups will read what is posted and one recorder should write the group’s responses, thoughts, and comments on the chart paper or white board. For individual student accountability, you may also have the students record their own responses on a worksheet (see template below), or put their initials below what they wrote. Having different colored markers for each student is also an option. 4. Rotate After three to five minutes, have the groups rotate to the next station. Students read and discuss the previous group’s response and add content of their own. Repeat until all groups have visited each station. To involve all group members, you can  have groups switch recorders at each station. 5. Monitors the teacher, it is important to monitor the stations while the students participate. You may also need to clarify or provide hints if students don't understand or misinterpret what is posted at their station. 6. Reflect Have students go back to their first station to read all that was added to their first response. Bring the class back together to discuss what was learned and make final conclusions about what they saw and discussed.
