5. Why do private schools receive services? Under Title I, local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to provide services for eligible private school students, as well as eligible public school students. In particular, §1120 of Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), requires a participating LEA to provide eligible children attending private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers, and their families with Title I services or other benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public school children, their teachers, and their families.

6. Who is responsible for providing services? The LEA is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing the Title I program –The LEA may not delegate those responsibilities to the private schools The LEA must consult with the private school officials annually to develop a program that best fits the private school –Initial consultation –On-going consultation

7. What should Title I services look like? Instructional services must be the primary focus If funding is not sufficient to provide instructional services other services may be provided –Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) –Professional development –Parental involvement

17. What are the Title I Set-asides? If an LEA chooses to reserve funds for PD and/or district- wide initiatives, equitable portions of those set-asides are required. Set-asides that are subject to equitable services: –Parental involvement –Professional Development –District-wide Initiatives Title I required set-asides: –Parent Involvement (If LEAs Title I allocation is greater than $500,000) –95% for schools–above and beyond spiral

Next calculate the equitable services amount for each set- aside.
