How to Develop Effective Industry Relations and Fundraising Fulton Development – Margo Burdick, Senior Associate Director of Development Room: Skysong 1 201 Global

ASU Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Development Office Who We Are? Fulton Development Office – 10 staff members – 6 front line fundraisers ASU Foundation What We Do? Serve as a liaison to industry partners Work with School Directors Raise money and awareness Make and advance relationships with industry and individuals

Sponsorship Opportunities How We Can Help Advise on the timing and substance of materials Provide sample letters/emails and examples of benefit levels Provide feedback on materials Submit package to ASUF for approval, open ASUF account Discuss and review industry prospect lists Work with development team to solicit industry partners ($5K+) Process checks

Sponsorship Opportunities Prepare a hard copy and electronic copy of the sponsorship packet for your team, including by not necessarily limited to: Information about the goals of the team A description of the project or competition A statement of benefits of partnering such as: Tax deduction for charitable donation to ASU Fulton Schools of Engineering, a 501c(3) organization – All gifts and payments made payable to the ASU Foundation Recruiting visibly on campus National visibility at competition through logo placement Opportunity to showcase or further develop a company’s relationship with the team and ASU

Sponsorship Opportunities Obtain early access to student resumes and portfolios Mentoring opportunities Interview potential employees on-site Spread the knowledge of your company and brand to attendees

Sponsorship Opportunities PitchFunder is ASU’s own integrated crowdfunding program, designed to empower the ASU community to raise the funds needed for projects, events and efforts that make a difference—locally and globally. PitchFunder projects are successfully funded by the active engagement of donors and supporters through direct communications, like email, and through social media. If you’re interested in hosting a PitchFunder campaign, please visit http://pitchfunder.asu.edu.  All funds will be deposited with the ASU Foundation for A New American University, a nonprofit organization that exists to support Arizona State University (ASU). Gifts in support of ASU are subject to foundation policies and fees. Your gift may be considered a charitable contribution. Please consult your tax adviser regarding the deductibility of charitable contributions.

Sponsorship Opportunities Tips Use your networks (young alumni, national student organization, family members, industry connections) Make sure you have an ASUF account set up to receive funds Communicate with the Development Office on contacts, gifts, questions, securing space for conferences, etc. Corporate gifts can happen quickly or take time depending on the company and its funding cycle Prepare a budget and a tracking system for all fundraising activity

Sponsorship Opportunities Know your donors and partners who are already supporting you and how they can help In addition to keeping track of all your current prospects and donors, keep track of your graduating team members by reporting the names to the development office, which will create an ongoing list of alumni associated with your team Thank your donors and involve them in your organization (invitations to events, guest speaking opportunity)
