How do we know what has happened in the past? Primary sources - historical documents, written accounts, or objects that have survived from the past Original first-hand accounts/objects created by people in that time period Examples: letters, personal papers, government documents, oral accounts, paintings, diaries, tablets, scrolls, maps, photographs, articles of clothing, artifacts (including art objects and architecture), skeletons, coins, or stamps.
Secondary sources - accounts of past events created by people after those events happened. A work that is not an original document or object and not created in that time period Examples: textbook, lectures, websites, movie recreations, some videos, biographies
