Resurrection Sunday April 24, 2011 The Tomb is Empty! He Has Risen!

The Passover Week 1. On Wed evening Jesus eats the Passover meal w/ His disciples and walks to the Garden where He is betrayed, Mark 14:12-50. 2. While in the Garden, Jesus prays to GF to avoid the cross, but Jesus’ sacrificial death is God’s plan for His life, Matt 26:39. 3. Jesus demonstrates His deity while being arrested in the Garden, John 18:4-11. 4. After His arrest, Jesus is deserted by all His disciples, Mark 14:50.

The Passover Week 5. Jesus will endure six different hearings. a. The Jewish authorities. 1) Annas 2) Caiaphas 3) Sanhedrin b. The Gentile/Roman authorities. 1) Pilate 2) Herod 3) Pilate

The Passover Week 6. During the first two trials Peter denies Jesus three times, Luke 22:54-62. 7. After the third Jewish trial in which Jesus is condemned, Judas is remorseful, returns the money and hangs himself. 8. Even though Pilate is unable to find any guilt in Jesus, he sentences Him to death to placate the Jews. 9. Although Jesus is found innocent, He is abused by both Jews and Romans even before He is crucified, Luke 22:63. 10. Jesus is taken to a place called Golgotha (Aramaic) or Calvary (Latin) and crucified with two criminals.

The Passover Week 11. Crucifixion was not a punishment that the Jews could give, so this sentence had to be adjudicated by a Roman official. 12. After Jesus’ death He is immediately placed in a tomb in a garden very close to the place of crucifixion by two Pharisees. 13. On Friday morning (Passover) the Jewish leaders seal the tomb and place a guard in front of it. 14. On Sunday morning, the women coming to anoint Jesus’ body find the stone rolled back and the Tomb is Empty!! 15. He is Risen!
