1 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
By Steve Mann

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. Matthew 28:2

3 At a trial three days before…
Matthew 26:63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

4 Rome would not allow nations under their control to practice the death penalty without their permission Jesus was sent to Pilate… Luke 23:3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.

5 Pilate – sent him to Herod
“He plied him with many questions (he kept asking questions), but Jesus gave him no answer.” Luke 23:9

6 Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate…
Luke 23:14 “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.”

7 Pilate was frustrated and afraid…
He knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him. Pilate’s wife had a bad dream about the whole thing The Jews were saying Pilate was not a faithful Roman leader An uproar was starting

8 Pilate’s way of dealing with it…
Pilate took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”

9 Jewish leadership All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!” The same leaders would later say to Peter and the rest of the apostles; “you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!” Acts 5:28

10 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them
Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

11 The Roman Scourge Among the Romans there was no legal limit to the number of blows, as with the Jews. Trauma, bleeding would leave the criminal "half- dead." The Centurion in charge would order the flogging to stop when the criminal was near death.

12 Matthew 27:32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross

13 They Nailed Him Luke 23:33 When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.

14 And then, He died He said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit. John 19:30

15 Joseph of Arimathea assisted by Nicodemus
…(Nicodemus) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews.

16 They placed Him in a tomb

17 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb… “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

18 Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

19 Followers of Jesus were in sock
Luke 24 “But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed Him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him. We had hoped He was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago.”

20 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side

21 Thomas was not there, he said
“Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

22 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

23 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

24 Jesus said to Thomas “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

25 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
